Google-owned YouTube has introduced several new features for users of its premium service, including higher quality videos for web and iOS users, support for co-viewing videos on FaceTime via Apple’s SharePlay, and support for mobile devices. But they include other controls for managing the queue.
In the coming weeks, the company will launch an enhanced bitrate version of 1080p HD video quality starting on iOS (and an experiment coming soon to the web) to provide its Premium members with an even higher video quality experience.
“While all users will still have access to 1080p, this enhanced 1080p quality setting will appear extra crisp and clear, especially for videos with lots of detail and motion,” YouTube said in a blog post.
For users who like to jump from one video to another, the company has introduced a feature that will give them more control over their queue.
“Today, for Premium members, we’re expanding the queue to phones and tablets, giving you complete control over what you watch,” the company said.
In addition, the company has simplified ‘Sharing Experience’ while watching YouTube videos.
Through Meet Live Sharing on Android devices, Premium members can host Google Meet sessions where all attendees, whether Premium or Free users, can watch YouTube videos together.
The company will also roll out this experience via SharePlay for FaceTime users on iOS in the coming weeks.
Another feature that the video-sharing platform has introduced will let users return to YouTube across devices, that is, premium members can now continue watching videos where they stopped earlier, even if they switch between devices. So that they can go back without any hindrance.
The feature is now available on Android, iOS and the web.
Lastly, the company introduced a feature that will continue the YouTube experience for users even when they are offline.
“With Smart Downloads, when you’re connected to Wi-Fi, we automatically add recommended videos directly to your library, ready to watch offline,” the company said.
This feature will allow users to watch videos whenever and wherever they want, as well as discover new content without having to search.
