Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is finally here with another display breakthrough tech

Xiaomi has saved the Mix series for display-related innovation and five years later, it has found something fresh in the Mi Mix 4. The front camera below the display (so says the company). The result is a phone that is no different than the Mix 3 on the front, but has interesting technology inside.

Before reaching the height of your expectations, Xiaomi has so far released the Mi MIX 4 in China at a price of CNY 4,999 (approximately Rs. 57,000). The phone will go on sale in China on August 16 and Xiaomi has not yet commented on the global availability. However, with phones like the Mi 11 Ultra coming to India and other markets, Xiaomi is likely to consider it for our coast.

Now, back to the features and attributes.

Mi MIX 4 with display again

The star of the show is the large 6.6-inch display, which is no different than the OnePlus 7 Pro or Oppo Find X. Interesting thing below. To increase clarity and minimal light refraction, Xiaomi is using a flexible OLED panel with a rearranged circuit and a new micro-diamond pixel pattern.

Why all this technical pain? As a result, the display’s 20-megapixel selfie camera can hide underneath without revealing its location. Xiaomi says that the pixel density of the top of the camera is 400 ppi, which means you can clearly put all the text behind without looking at the pixels. Therefore, you won’t see the camera sensor even when you’re not using it, something that the ZTE Axon 20 struggles with to compete with its under-display camera technology.

Does it work in real life? We have no idea and you will have to wait for us to lend a unit of Xiaomi MIX 4 to give our verdict. So far, the implementation is promising and knowing Shaomi’s history, it could mark the farewell for punch-hole cutouts and ugly grooves.

In keeping with the theme, the Mi MIX 4 gets a ceramic body and comes in white and black. Inside, there’s a Snapdragon 888+ chipset that shows performance requirements with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. This phone also gets a UWB chip for correct positioning (expect UWB tracker from Xiaomi to be launched soon). A typical 4500mAh battery keeps the lights on but has some fancy technology for the charging department.

Xiaomi has baked in a boost mode that allows the 120W wired charger to charge the battery from 0-100 percent in 15 minutes. Boost mode helps the 50W wireless charger do the same thing in 28 minutes. For those who are concerned about battery health, the wired charger can fully refill in normal mode within 21 minutes. Not bad by modern fast charging standards.

The Mi MIX 4 has a fancy camera. There is a 108-megapixel Samsung HMX sensor with 1 / 1.33-inch sensor, f / 1.95 aperture and OIS support for the main camera. An 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 5X optical zoom and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera complete the rear camera setup with a free form lens.

Do you like Mi MIX 4 or still like the awesome Mi 11 Ultra?
