Chipmaker MediaTek will reportedly integrate Nvidia’s artificial intelligence (AI) graphics processing units (GPUs) in its upcoming 2024 flagship system-on-chips (SoCs).
As Gizmochina reports, this will be a big step forward for Nvidia as it will show that even established desktop GPU designs can be ported to smartphone SoCs.
The new strategy adopted by Nvidia aims to increase AI computational power while aiding the company’s financial recovery.
It would also be beneficial for MediaTek to include Nvidia GPUs in its SoC as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 currently outperforms MediaTek’s SoC in terms of AI capabilities.
The report adds that MediaTek may be able to dominate the premium market and increase the appeal of its SoCs to smartphone makers.
Meanwhile, last week, MediaTek said it will showcase its innovative 3GPP non-terrestrial network (NTN) technology that brings two-way satellite communications to smartphones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which will be held from February 27 to 27. Will be till February. March 2 in Barcelona, Spain.
