The legalization of marijuana and other narcotics is still debated around the world, even though many countries allow it. Canada is one of the countries that has legalized the use of cannabis for both medicinal and recreational purposes. But if you find it difficult to buy cannabis in Canada, Uber will now deliver it to your door. Uber’s food delivery app, Uber Eats, will now offer cannabis delivery in Toronto.
To manage cannabis purchases, Uber Eats has joined hands with a cannabis marketplace in Canada called Leafly. The company claims that its cannabis delivery service is a first in the world for “a major third-party distribution platform.” Since November last year, people in Ontario have been able to order weed through the Uber Eats app, but they had to step out of their homes and go to a store to pick it up.
People 19 years of age or older will be able to order weed from the Uber Eats app just like they would order food from a restaurant. The upfront price of the weed will be shown in the app, but Uber Eats will warn you about the legal age before placing an order. Uber Eats will hire employees from cannabis retailers to place your order instead of independent drivers, according to axios, The delivery person will also verify the age and sobriety of the customer.
“We are partnering with industry leaders like Leafly to help retailers provide a safe, convenient option for people in Toronto to purchase legal cannabis for delivery to their homes, helping to combat the illegal market. Will help and help reduce poor driving,” said Lola Kasim, general manager at Uber Eats.
While Uber Eats has made home delivery a weed in downtown Toronto, residents have other options. For example, retailers on Leafly’s platform already have cannabis delivered to your doorstep within 45 minutes. However, in some locations Uber Eats can deliver weed faster than Leafly’s service.
