Facebook has recently rebranded to meet itself although nothing has really changed for its personal platforms- Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp. The move is aimed at diverting users’ attention to metavers that don’t really exist (for now), but more so because it relates to the strings of complaints and scandals that social networks have been trying to land from their accounts for the past few years. . Rebranding is not a new concept, in fact, Google restructured its company in 2015 by naming its parent company Alphabet, although that name still does not have a great recognition as Google. NYT notes that rebranding has often been used as a tool to update company names to reflect cultural changes in consumer behavior or values. There is a huge risk behind the rebranding process, as it depends on how consumers respond to the rationale for the name change, although the obvious reason remains to sell new ideas based on dynamic consumer behavior. Facebook or Meta has played a safe game in this regard, only changing its corporate, not the brand of the product.
