Apple has introduced the new MacBook Pro model with its new M1 Pro and M1 Max chipset. The company claims that the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro will provide users with “groundbreaking processing, graphics and machine learning (ML) performance”, including “amazing battery life”. The new MacBook Pro has a liquid Retina XDR display, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera and MacOS Monterey. In addition to these things, it also brings back Magsef.

MacBook Pro: Price, Availability

The new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are currently available for pre-order through the company’s website and will be available from October 26.

The new Macbook Pro 14-inch M1 Pro model with 8-core CPU, 14-core GPU, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD is priced at Rs 1,94,900 and the 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD model is priced at Rs. 39,900.

The 16-inch model with M1 Pro chip is priced at Rs 2,39,900 and the M1 Max powered variant is priced at Rs 3,29,900.

MacBook Pro: Special mention

According to the company, the new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are the first chips designed for its Pro systems. The M1 Pro chip features up to 10-core CPU and up to 16-core GPU. The new M1 Pro SoC delivers 70 percent faster CPU performance and 2x faster GPU performance than the M1, the company claims. It also adds a ProRes accelerator to the media engine.

The M1 Max has the same powerful 10-core CPU and doubles the GPU to 32 cores for 4x faster GPU performance than the M1 chip. The M1 Max chip comes with an advanced media engine, which features two ProRes accelerators.

Both the M1 Pro and M1 Max come with a 16-core neural engine, which allows users to enjoy fast machine learning (ML) tasks.

The new Apple MacBook Pro models come with a new aluminum enclosure, precisely machined around an advanced heating system that, according to the company, “can ventilate 50 percent more than the previous generation.” It comes with a new magic keyboard, which adds a full-height function row instead of the touch bar. The keyboard is complemented by a Force Touch trackpad.

The new MacBook Pro is the first MacBook to feature the Liquid Retina XDR display, a mini-LED technology used in the iPad Pro. The Liquid Retina XDR display provides one thousand nits of durable brightness and 1,600 nits of peak brightness. It supports HDR content and comes with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz with a P3 wide color gamut. The company claims, “The combination of outstanding XDR performance and super-fluid promotion technology has made it the best notebook display in the world.”

The 16-inch model has a 16.2-inch display and the 14-inch model has a 14.2-inch display. Both the new MacBook Pro models have an iPhone-like notch that can accommodate a FaceTime camera.

The new MacBook Pro runs MacOS Monterey. According to the company, the 14-inch model provides up to 17 hours of video playback and the 16-inch model provides up to 21 hours of video playback. In addition, the new MacBook Pro brings back the MagSafe with the original magnetic connector, not the wireless we see on the iPhone.

MagSafe 3 comes with an updated design and adds more power to the system. The company claims that the MagSafe 3 can charge the MacBook Pro up to 50 percent in 30 minutes.
