Personal data of more than 1.5 billion Facebook users was up sale on Hacker Forum: Report

Privacy Affairs, a privacy research company, recently released data on more than 1.5 billion users of Facebook’s data breaches. The online report claims that 1.5 billion data of Facebook users have been sold in a hacker forum.

According to the claim, the data collected through web scraping includes location, name, gender, email, user ID and phone number. For now, this data has been removed from the forum and is no longer available.

The study found that data was collected by scraping public data from users. Privacy research firm Privacy Affairs said the data available for sale online did not indicate that hackers had damaged Facebook’s system. The privacy agency examined some of the samples provided in the forum and found that they were valid.

Facebook data scraping

Some potential buyers claim that the seller cheated them, and no information was provided after the payment was made. Speaking of scraping, it collects a user’s information, which is universal. Hackers can scrap data by showing users online quizzes and trivial matters in order to provide them with personal information.

“The claimed thread of the claimed data scrap has disappeared from the hacker forum. However, the forum’s posters and alleged vendors were not banned (usually, what happens if the allegations of scandal are true). It is possible that the thread was removed at the request of Facebook, ”according to a privacy report.

Miklos Zoltan, founder and CEO of Privacy Affairs, said if leaking information to the forum was legal, it could be “the biggest and most significant Facebook data dump ever.” The hacker forum removed the post after receiving a removal request via Facebook. The report said the data was collected through a 4-year-old scraping business.

Cyber Crime Intelligence Hudson Rock CTO Alan Gall says the data leaked years ago is still vital information for hackers that could be misused.

Earlier this year, a user revealed the personal information of 533 million Facebook users in a low-level hacking forum. The leaks contain data from a total of 106 countries, including India. It contained data on about 60 lakh users in India.

The post The hacker forum has sold the personal data of more than 1.5 billion Facebook users: the report was first published on BGR India.
