Elon Musk recently posted a minor update regarding the launch of Tesla in India. The CEO of the electric-car maker had mentioned that the company still faces several challenges with the government. The business tycoon’s comment has invited a response from Kalvakuntala Taraka Rama Rao, Minister of Industries and Commerce of Telangana.
Responding to Elon Musk’s tweet, he said the state would be happy to help Tesla through the challenges to set up shop within its borders. He further promoted the state as a top business destination in India.
KTR said in a tweet, “Hey Elon, I am the Minister of Industry and Commerce of the State of Telangana in India. Will be delighted to partner with Tesla to work through the challenges of setting up shop in India/Telangana. Our State Sustainability is a champion in initiatives and is a top business destination in India.

Tesla promises
In late 2020, Elon had promised Indian enthusiasts in India that the electric vehicle company would launch its product in 2021. It clearly hasn’t ended. Last year, the company had serious complaints from the government. Elon claimed that India’s import duty is among the highest in the world. He claimed that this tax system is not conducive to the growth of the EV sector.
government side of the story
In defense of the government, they are inviting Musk to set up a Tesla assembly line to drive down the overall prices of their products. Currently, Tesla is looking to import vehicles through the CBD (completely built unit) route to gauge buyer interest. Musk has claimed that if buyers show interest, the company is ready to set up a facility in the country. This is clearly a deadlock. Enthusiasts may have to wait longer than expected to get their hands on the best-selling electric vehicles in the world.
present situation
Tesla cars and even Superchargers have often been spotted in the wild in India. Three models/variants of Tesla cars have also been homologated. This signals that Tesla is almost ready to launch, but the prices may not be as per the company’s plan. Several other luxury car makers like BMW and Mercedes-Benz have also opted for a similar strategy.
