US-based real estate company Better.com is going through a second round of layoffs. The news made for the first time due to the crude method in which 900 employees were fired through a zoom call. Better.com CEO Vishal Garg was at the center of the last episode. Now the second round of layoffs is also making headlines for its implementation.

Many employees of the company have come forward on social media platforms to tell about their latest exam. Earlier reports suggested that Better.com was planning a massive layoff on March 8. However, the company reportedly pushed the date to March 9 when this information was leaked to the media. However, due to lack of preparation, the company mistakenly sent severance pay notices to the fired employees on March 8.

 

BGR.in managed to get hold of the letter being sent to the affected employees in India. The letter contained details about the compensation being paid to employees due to the latest round of firing.

The letter addressed to employees speaks about benefits including severance pay and other details. The letter from the employer states that it will provide support and resources for finding more job opportunities. The company agreed to provide experience letters for further job options.

Employees fired in this round of layoffs will be given three months’ salary. The letter said, “You will get 3 months’ compensation which will be paid as part of your full and final. It will be paid by 9th March 2022 on top of your salary along with statutory dues, leave encashment, incentives , statutory and any other payment subject to tax deduction, as applicable. You will also receive the complete and final settlement details on your personal email id by the end of the month along with the instructions for the next steps. You are requested to accept this letter and Sign it.”

The letter further said, “The severance amount mentioned above shall be credited to your specified salary account or any other account identified by you within 45 (forty five) working days of the receipt of the assets of the company by the company.”

The company also promised career transition services for future employment. This includes career coaching, a new resume, as well as job search support.

While the letter details the benefits, no prior notice was sent to these employees saying they had been fired. Some examples have been detailed on social media.

In one such instance, the employee was busy responding to a customer of the company when the official laptop provided by Better.com was turned off. Some employees also said that many women on the list of those fired were pregnant. Employees have requested Vishal Garg and Kevin Ryan to provide support to these women, who “relied on the better with their stability during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives.”
