The Indian government has proposed a new scheme under which it will completely remove a toll plaza from a highway. However, this does not mean that there will be no toll tax. The government plans to make the process even more seamless than the FASTag experience. Union Road and Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari has claimed that the government is planning to use a new number plate technology that will make toll plazas completely redundant. There would be no reason to stop and pay.
During Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari claimed that the government is in the process of bringing in a new technology which will collect toll using a computerized digital system. Though the official decision is not yet out, the government is in the process of finalizing the plan.
The minister claimed that with the implementation of this system, there will be no need for any toll, any person or any big structure at all. Additionally, this would help the government generate more revenue, as there would be no specific infrastructure or human capital that would require heavy maintenance.
How will the new toll process work?
The government is still working on finalizing the process. Essentially, there are two options:
below first optionThe government will use a satellite-based system that will track the GPS of the car to collect toll tax directly from the bank account.
below The second optionThe government will replace your car’s old number plate and install a new one that will be compatible with a computerized system that will be able to track where the car has entered and exited a major highway.
Gadkari explained, “The easiest system is that when you start from the point it will be registered and when you exit the highway it will register again. Hence the exact amount driven by the car will be deducted from the account of the owner. We are already working on this. As far as the selection of technology is concerned, we have not made up our mind. But within a month we will have selected the technology. We will use all the cutting edge technology of the world which will be useful to the people.
Posts may soon be free from Indian highway toll plazas but money will be deducted directly from accounts that appeared earlier on BGR India.
