Smartphone users in India are spending up to five hours a day on apps: Report

Smartphone users in more than a dozen markets around the world, including India, spend four to five hours a day browsing apps, a new report says.

While the daily time spent on apps varies by country, App Annie, TechCrunch reports, there are now 13 markets where users spend more than four hours a day using the app.

These include Indonesia, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Russia, Turkey, the US and the UK. And, in three of these markets – Indonesia, Singapore and Brazil – mobile users spend more than five hours a day on apps.

While the growth in app usage has slowed slightly since the second quarter of 2020, it is worth noting that two years ago it was the height of the Covid lockdown, which prompted app usage to spike across categories as users worked. They used to shop, do banking and play games and also studied and attended meetings, school and home events, the report said.

The report also includes the top-ranked apps and games for the second quarter, which saw Instagram take the top spot worldwide in terms of non-gaming apps and TikTok at No. 1 in terms of consumer spending.

Facebook was still number one by monthly active users, ahead of WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, Telegram, Amazon, Twitter, Spotify and Netflix.
