Only then did we hear what we heard towards the end of 2018: the beginning of the era of foldable phones. It was another year and two years after the invention of some technology, and the concept was much more alive and well. Among the brands that started producing these attractive phones, Samsung has become a big name in this space and still continues to aim to mainstream these curved devices.
So, here we are, two days away from the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 and about all the interesting offers that Lightning can see this year. But before we move on and welcome new products, let’s revisit those that have already become a part of the technology world.
Samsung foldable phones: which have been launched
It’s not the long history of a foldable smartphone but it can safely be said to be a consistent effort to secure it. Samsung has so far launched four foldable smartphones: Galaxy Z Fold, Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G.
The first Samsung foldable phone (launched in 2019) took a book-like opening scene and had a secure head-turner. But, it has also raised some concerns about whether it is a sustainable product that has come under the negative spotlight for unreliable hinges.
Then a different foldable phone L: Galaxy Z Flip that was opened vertically. This time Samsung has come up with a kind of ultra-thin-glass (UTG) screen to alleviate the durability concerns. It received the second installment of the Z Fold and even the 5G variant of the Flip.
Although I wasn’t lucky enough to use all these phones, I spent some time with both Samsung variants: the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Fold 2. Both these phones will take you to a full state with excitement and joy. The monotonous nature of smartphones nowadays creates some consideration for a foldable phone.
The Galaxy Z Flip is a compact form factor that makes a phone much easier to carry and open to use it like a longer version of it. There was a time when Motorola King came to enjoy the angry trend of a foldable phone and bring us some nostalgia. The Galaxy Z Flip, no doubt seemed more luxurious and after the initial ban, the fear of a broken phone has simply faded. No matter how many times you turn the phone off and on, it doesn’t hurt.
I recently got the experience of Galaxy Z Fold 2 and this is more understandable to me. The convenience of watching videos and reading things was colorful. My use of the smartphone involves a lot of video-streaming and searching for answers to numerous topics on the web. It became a matter of pleasure during my brief meeting with the phone. Typing isn’t the best, of course, and what looks smooth on a regular phone becomes a chore with a foldable phone.
Both these phones come with a secondary display. Although one of the Jade flips allows you to get notifications and even take selfies. Fold 2 provides a second screen to use it like a conventional phone. Although, it looks like an early version of an elongated and heavy phone. The good side is that the devices are very heavy and can make things easier for you.
Sadly, I haven’t been able to use phones for a long time and can’t tell if investing in them or not is a great idea. But, it’s still a concept like exploration. And this is something that we can move forward with in a few days.
Samsung foldable phones: which will
Samsung, after many leaks, has finally revealed the date that it will launch new foldable devices. Everything is not revealed by the South Korean major but for its price, we have a few leaks to give us an idea.
This time, Samsung is not expected to experiment with the design: the same form factor tow for both products. But, Samsung has confirmed that the new two foldable phones will display a refined and more durable build. This is something we can certainly welcome in the open arm, considering a sturdy and improved durability if a folding device needs to be used but still feels annoying. Maybe we can finally get rid of the crease that remains when you fold the device.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are likely to come with an upgraded spec sheet with several improvements in each category. But there are some things that many people can believe when buying a device. Multitasking capability will be further enhanced with the presence of an S Pen. The Z Fold 2 is one that will support the stylus and the possibilities for different uses are endless. A flip supporting is not a very good one. The phones are then expected to be Samsung’s first foldable water and dust resistant.
But one thing we really want, really like a foldable phone? Afford it and it could be true. No, these foldable phones will not carry mid-range price but there are rumors that the price of Galaxy Z Flip 3 will start from $ 1,000 (around Rs 74,000), which may be close to this price limit in India as well. Now, this is something. If this is true, eventually a foldable phone could be in a league where people might consider buying it. High-end specs, a tempting form factor, can be an option for you if you have to choose between an iPhone or a high-end Galaxy S phone.
It can certainly smooth things out for a foldable phone and even for Samsung, because that’s what makes a cheap foldable a reality.
That said, we haven’t seen the launch event yet and can see how Samsung turns these two upcoming foldable phones around more than ever before. Stay tuned to this place to see what’s coming!
