Reliance Jio today announced that it will start testing its 5G network in select cities across the country this Dussehra. The company said that it will start beta testing its actual 5G services in four cities across the country from October 5. These four cities are- Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Varanasi.
Jio said that it will offer standalone 5G services in these cities as part of the beta trial. Standalone 5G networks are not dependent on the company’s existing 4G infrastructure, which enables it to provide higher speeds and more efficient networks than networks that use non-standalone 5G technology. The company also said that it is the only operator with 700 MHz low-band spectrum, which ensures deep indoor coverage.
“Our Prime Minister has given a clarion call for an accelerated roll-out of 5G across India to realize the full potential of Digital India. In response, Jio has prepared an ambitious and fastest 5G roll-out plan for a country of our size,” said Akash Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., on the occasion.
“Jio 5G will be the world’s most advanced 5G network, built by Indians for every Indian,” he said.
True Jio 5G Welcome Offer
Apart from announcing beta tests for its 5G services in India, Jio also announced the True Jio 5G Welcome Offer. The offer will be available by invitation to select Jio customers in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Varanasi and will provide customers with unlimited 5G data up to 1 Gbps. Jio also said that invited ‘Jio Welcome Offer’ users will automatically upgrade to Jio True 5G service without the need to replace their existing Jio SIM or 5G handset.
As far as availability in other cities is concerned, the telecom giant said that it will progressively announce the beta testing service for other cities as more cities ‘keep ready’.
It is worth noting that Jio is set to start the deployment of its 5G network in India from this Diwali. The company plans to have pan-India coverage by December 2023.
