Jio’s second-quarter (FY22) customer growth was not a good one. In September, it suffered significant losses in terms of mobile subscribers.

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel gained 2.74 lakh new mobile subscribers in September, while Geo lost 19 million subscribers in September. However, Vodafone Idea, the country’s third largest telecom company, lost 10.77 lakh connections. According to the data, Airtel subscribers increased to 35.44 million in September from 35.41 million in August.

Jio’s mobile subscriber base stood at 42.48 million and lost 1.9 million connections in September. During this period, the number of Vodafone Idea subscribers dropped to 26.99 crore.

The market share of Airtel’s wireless subscribers has increased by 0.06 percent. In contrast, Jio’s market share fell 4.29 percent.

The telecom regulator noted that the wireless subscribers of private access service providers had 89.99 per cent market share, while state-run MTNL and BSNL had 10.01 per cent.

According to the data, total wireless subscribers decreased by 1.74 per cent to 116.60 million at the end of September as compared to the previous month. At the same time, wireless subscriptions in urban areas fell 1.92 percent to about 638 million. Wireless subscriptions in rural areas fell 1.53 percent to 528 million.

If you look at Airtel’s August figures, Airtel’s subscriber base grew by 1.38 million during this period. Also, it increased to 2.74 lakh in September. Where a maximum of 6.5 lakh users joined Jio in August. But in September it decreased to Tk 1.9 crore. At the same time, the Vodafone-Idea (VI) situation is not improving. After 8.33 million in October, the number of Vi users decreased by 10.77 million in September.

Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have increased the price of their prepaid plans, effective November 25. Although Reliance Jio has not yet raised the price of their prepaid plans, it is expected that Jio will rarely do so, but official news has not been released yet.
