it’s been two years Qualcomm Last time the wearable chipset was launched for smartwatches. The Snapdragon 4100+, released in 2020, is based on a 12nm node. On the other hand, Samsung’s currently available Exynos W920 has a 5nm process, while Apple’s S7 chipset has a 7nm process.
It is clear that Qualcomm is lacking and this is largely affecting the Android smartwatch space. But that is about to change, as Qualcomm has just teased the release of its next Snapdragon wearable chipset.
Next-Gen Snapdragon Wearable Chip May Come With Better 4nm Process
Qualcomm, sharing a teaser on its social media platform, revealed that it is ready to release a new chipset for smartwatches. However, there are no details on what the next generation wearable chipset will be called.

Previous leaks have shed light on the Snapdragon 5100 and Snapdragon 5100+ chipsets for wearable devices. These chips are expected to succeed the currently available Snapdragon 4100 and Snapdragon 4100+.
Wearable chips coming from Snapdragon could deliver better efficiency. Something similar is similar to the currently available chip by Samsung i.e. Exynos W920. We say this because the Exynos W920 is based on Samsung’s 5nm fabrication and leaks from the Snapdragon 5100 series suggest that it could be based on an improved 4nm fabrication.
The Snapdragon 4100+, which is used in current-gen WearOS smartwatches, has a 12nm build. Although the 4100+ offered better performance and efficiency than the 28nm Snapdragon 3100 series, it doesn’t stand a chance against the new Exynos W920 or Apple’s 7nm S7 chipset.
That said, Qualcomm’s next-gen chip based on the 4nm manufacturing process is expected to deliver superior performance and efficiency over most of the top contenders available right now. Now it all comes down to Google as to how it tunes WearOS for the upcoming chipset.
The launch timeline for the next Snapdragon wearable chip series is still unknown. But we should know more about that in the coming weeks.
