The Twitter account of the Government of Pakistan has been closed in India. According to the information displayed on the page for the now blocked account, the action was taken “in response to a legal demand”. However, the specifics of the legal demand that led to this step are not clear.

An account on Twitter is liable to be suspended for not complying with local laws. The microblogging platform blocks the content posted by the respective account on receipt of a legal order.
“In our continued effort to make our Services available to people everywhere, it is necessary from time to time to block access to certain Content in a particular country if we receive a valid and reasonable scope request from an authorized entity. Such a bar will be limited to the specific jurisdiction that has issued a valid legal requisition or where the content is found to be in violation of local law(s),” a Twitter spokesperson was quoted as saying in the Economic Times report.
