OnePlus has made some changes to its smartphone strategy over the last few years. From just focusing on flagship devices, the company now offers quite affordable smartphones under the Nord series. According to a new report by data engineer and freelance journalist Yogesh Brar, OnePlus plans to launch some smartphones for less than Rs 20,000 next year. The company has not yet released any specific details on the matter.
Brar revealed on Twitter on Thursday that the Chinese smartphone maker is planning to launch a bunch of phones priced below Rs 20,000 in India. “Oppo has always been associated with OnePlus in one way or another,” Brar tweeted. But now they are setting the terms. OnePlus is going through a change, and Sub20K phones are on the card for India. These cheap OnePlus phones could launch early next quarter or even be delayed until Q2 of 2022.
Focus on affordable OnePlus phones
Until 2019, Chinese smartphone makers mainly focused on releasing two flagship series each year. The company has changed its strategy since launching the Nord series last year.
Since then, OnePlus has launched a number of affordable Nord smartphones, the latest being the Nord 2 and Nord CE5G. In India, the OnePlus Nord 2 and Nord CE 5G are priced at Rs 27,999 and Rs 24,999 respectively.
With existing Nord series smartphones, Chinese smartphone makers have fought hard against competing brands including Xiaomi, Realmy, Samsung.
Aiming to launch many cheaper phones at a price of Rs 20,000, OnePlus can capture the budget smartphone segment, which has long been ruled by brands like Samsung, Realmy and Redmi.
Meanwhile, the company will continue to focus on developing its flagship lineup. As per past reports, OnePlus 9RT may hit the Indian market soon. Prior to the official release, a lot has been revealed about the OnePlus 9RT which includes the full spec sheet and the expected price in India. Read here to know more.
