OnePlus Nord 2 5G smartphone has been officially launched in India after a long wait. Starting at Rs 27,999 for the base model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the Nord 2 is powered by MediaTek Dimension 1200-AI chipset. Interestingly, the Nord 2 is the company’s first smartphone to come with a MediaTek chipset. Exclusive interview with BGR.IN, OnePlus India’s Navneet Nakra, Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Sales India, explained how the company chose the Dimension 1200-AI chipset for the new Nord smartphone.
When selecting components such as chipsets, the company considers performance and experience that it will provide due to being targeted at price points, Nakra said. “So we collaborate with different partners and select the components for each device based on the experience we want to provide,” Nakra explains.
Why MediaTek Dimension AI-Chip?
For OnePlus Executive Highlights, Nord 2, the company has worked closely with MediaTek to collaborate on SEC and enhance AI-based features. To highlight the chipset’s new AI capabilities, Nakra added, “OnePlus has named Dimension 1200-AI to distinguish it from the standard Dimension 1200.”
As for performance capabilities, Nakara explains that “the collaborative AI work done at the top of MediaTek’s Dimension Open Resource Architecture (DORA) brings new AI-based features to the OnePlus Nord 2 5G to enhance the user experience at different touch points.” He added that in collaboration with MediaTek, “Photography with AI is published for superior imaging, enhanced display for top-ranking user experience, better response times for fast and smooth gaming, and more.”

Offers flagship at aggressive price points
OnePlus launched the Nord smartphone series in 2020, a flagship device aimed at meeting the needs of flag users yet. The strategy for Nord 2 remains the same as the original Nord. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G was the first Nord smartphone to be launched in India at the same time last year.
