The launch of the OnePlus 10T is just a few days away, and as always, the company is leaving no stone unturned to spread the word about it. This means that OnePlus is revealing details on the OnePlus 10T one after the other. The company recently shared the design of the phone, and one thing stuck. OnePlus 10T does not have an alert slider. For years, the alert slider has been a staple of the overall design of OnePlus phones, but this time around, you won’t see any. OnePlus has a reason.

OnePlus chief designer Hope Liu told The Verge that removing the alert slider was necessary for the OnePlus 10T. He added that by removing the slider, the company was able to free up internal space for other components, especially those needed for “higher wattage charging, larger capacity batteries and better antenna signals.” Basically, the alert slider had to be sacrificed for the other essential components.

fast charging

Liu did not specify what the charging speed of the OnePlus 10T would be, but did say that OnePlus will have to provide two charging pumps inside the phone for high-wattage charging. The OnePlus 10 Pro features 80W fast charging and uses a single unit of the aforementioned charging pump. So, Liu has hinted that the 10T will use a faster charging standard. Leaks suggest it could be 150W, and to enable that kind of technology, the battery configuration needs to change. OnePlus said that it has packed a bigger battery inside the 10T, without revealing what the capacity is.

better antennas

The next reason to remove the slider is a better antenna system. Liu said that the 10T uses 15 different antennas which, according to him, improve the signal when you hold the phone horizontally – mostly for playing games. More antennas also ensure that there is less frequent network degradation of your phone during calls. Depending on how you connect the antennas, sacrificing the alert slider can be a good or a bad thing.

Liu was quoted as saying, “Although the alert slider appears to be a very small component, it actually has a relatively large impact on the motherboard area of the device – up to 30 sq mm.” “To make sure the OnePlus 10T delivers in the areas we know our users value the most…we need to stack the device’s motherboard, making the device thicker, while maintaining the alert slider go.”

no hasselblad

Another change you’ll notice is the disappearance of the Hasselblad branding from the cameras. OnePlus has partnered with camera company Hasselblad to fine-tune the cameras on the OnePlus 9 Pro and above. However, the OnePlus 10T doesn’t use that branding. That means you’re unlikely to see support for 12-bit Raw photography and some photo filters – which obviously don’t make a big difference. Hasselblad-powered features were one of the extra frills, and that’s probably why OnePlus thought of doing away with it for the 10T.

Liu said that OnePlus wanted to offer “the ultimate performance flagship smartphone at the device’s chosen price point”. Thus, compromise. Originally, the Hasselblad branding had to go.

While leaks reveal all this, Liu confirmed that the OnePlus 10T will come with a 6.7-inch display and will have matte black and glossy green colourways. OnePlus had already confirmed that the 10T uses the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.

The post OnePlus 10T will not feature an alert slider and Hasselblad cameras, which is why it first appeared on BGR India.
