OnePlus 10T review: A timeless phone for the modern user

Lifestyle brand OnePlus is not just a phone company. With its “Never Settlement” ethos and adaptable yet stylish software, the company established a niche among Android aficionados and power users. It remained niche enough to satisfy its followers, even though its growing popularity forced it to go mainstream, and costs continued to mount. However, all of this is suddenly changing. The separation between OnePlus and allied business Oppo is eroding due to the merger of their software development teams.

With the release of OnePlus 10T, talks started about its features and design. So, the real question is whether this new model, with a quirky approach, is worth investing in. Let’s find out in this review!

about oneplus

The company’s CEO Pete Lau and Carl Pei founded OnePlus, a Chinese smartphone maker. As of July 2018, the business formally served 34 countries and territories worldwide. Among other things, they have released a lot of phones. The OnePlus 10T, the latest release from the T series, is expected to drive turnover in the Android smartphone market.

Talk about looks and build

Although the OnePlus 10T and OnePlus 10 Pro are of similar size, their designs are very slightly different. I find it impressive and elegant on this new smartphone, which still reflects the basic design of every other T series launch. The edges are curved and softer than other phones, making it comfortable to hold and not slippery when you put it down. It feels quite sturdy and has a tight grip, so unlike the Galaxy models, you won’t have a problem with the phone slipping out of your hand. The glass back is extremely glossy and reflective. I don’t recommend using a phone without a case, however, as a glass back is more fragile than a metal one and more likely to break. This can be a major drawback in this model if you are someone who often drops your phone around.

Software: OxygenOS is still smooth as butter

OnePlus devices have always been known for a great software experience, and the OnePlus 10T is no different. The device runs on OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12. The overall look and feel of OxygenOS is closer to that of stock Android, but the company has added some valuable features that make it much more than a vanilla experience. The phone comes with some valuable gestures, such as swiping up from the bottom of the screen to go to the home screen and swiping up to go to the last app. OnePlus 10T now has OnePlus Password Autofill which lets you securely autofill passwords saved in your OnePlus device or password manager from a different device that has Bluetooth enabled. You can use Google’s Smart Unlock feature to unlock your device in a trusted environment like your home or office. It’s exactly what you’d normally ask for from Android software, and you’re well fed by OnePlus.

So, what about the camera?

The primary rear camera sports an f/1.8 aperture and a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor with optical stabilization. Additionally, there is a 2-megapixel macro camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The resolution of the front camera is 16 megapixels. With support for 10-bit color capture and enhanced processing algorithms, OnePlus boasts of excellent detail even in low light, despite these unflattering specifications. Nothing new for the camera. It is on par with other smartphones available in the market, so it is not a big point of the phone. I liked the picture quality, and it’s worth a few clicks if you’re not a complete photogenic person. Low-light clicks are great, and I got an excellent resolution of 60FPS when filming video, so it’s a perfect budget-friendly camera phone.

High storage and big battery

OnePlus has also increased the storage and battery capacity of the OnePlus 10T. The 10T comes in three variants – one with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, another with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, and the third variant with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. The model also has a bigger battery than its predecessor. It has a 4,800mAh battery. OnePlus 10T also supports 150W fast charging technology. It takes just 10 minutes for the phone to get a day’s battery life. This is one feature that I found most impressive. This phone can last you all day, making it a beast in front of many Androids who claim to have it. And what more can you ask for than good storage for all your files, images, videos and apps? I would say, OnePlus did a smart job with it.

Buttery smooth performance and great display

The OnePlus 10T is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which is a slight bump from the one found in the OnePlus 10 Pro. The OnePlus 10T is one of the fastest smartphones I’ve ever used, and it handles anything you throw at it with ease. I haven’t found a single instance of lag or stuttering during testing, and the phone feels fluid when scrolling through menus and apps. The device also features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a pixel density of 394PPI. The display looks great with a punchy color gamut and wide viewing angles. The only downside is that it has an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is slow compared to traditional fingerprint sensors and can be finicky. The good thing is that you can also use Face Unlock as an alternative to the in-display fingerprint sensor on this device.

pleasing price

I know the one thing everyone expects from a new release is the price. If a phone comes loaded with various features then it is imperative not to think about high rates. The price of OnePlus 10T is Rs 49,999. It is cheaper than most of its competitors; Hence, it is the best option for people looking for an affordable, fashionable, sturdy and durable phone.

final call

The OnePlus 10T is a capable phone, perhaps offering better value than the OnePlus 10 Pro, but it’s not a mind-blowing device. Yes, you do get some exceptional features, one of which is battery life, but it completely depends on your preference and preference for the smartphone. I would recommend this phone to anyone who desires an excellent budget-friendly device with slightly off-beat on-screen quality and software. Regardless, the OnePlus 10T is an excellent release and well worth the investment.
