Despite launching countless Android smartphones every week across different price points, it’s Apple’s iPhone that continues to attract buyers to the pre-owned market. According to a recent survey by OLX, Indian consumers are looking for the iPhone as the most preferred smartphone in the pre-owned smartphone market, followed by Xiaomi and Samsung.
According to a survey conducted for 2020, Apple iPhones accounted for one-third of the overall demand for smartphones, with the rest distributed by popular brands such as Xiaomi, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, Realme and OnePlus. OLX does not specify the exact iPhone models that are high on the demand list.
IPhones hold higher prices in the pre-owned market
Not surprisingly, the high-demand ranking of Apple’s iPhone in the pre-owned market is Apple’s long-term support plan for its modern models. Just a few months ago, Apple announced that it would release the latest iOS 15 update for its 6-year-old iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Small General iPhone SEO has topped the list this year.
While this may not increase the demand for older iPhone Ss in the predicted market, it has had a more pronounced impact on relatively newer models in the affordable segments. Models like the iPhone, iPhone, iPhone XR, and the new iPhone SE are great value for buyers who might otherwise consider an affordable Android phone.
“The most competitive price bands are below Rs 10,000 and between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000, which meets about 80 per cent of the total demand for mobile phones in OLX. Of the total demand, 43 percent of the demand is drawn from Tier 3 cities, while Tier 2 cities contribute 30 percent and Tier 1 cities 27 percent. OLX provides a similar trend, “says OLX.
“While Apple iPhone demand is highest at 34 percent in Tier 1 cities, BBK’s electronics portfolio brand – OnePlus, Vivo, Oppo and Realm are the most popular among Tier 2 and 3 city customers, contributing 63 percent of the total smartphone demand,” OLX added.
“Consumers are moving online in response to the coronavirus ban, moving online, working, studying, shopping, especially through video communication, and this is clearly reflected in the aspirations of Indians to own smartphones. Walx India CMO Sapna Aurora said Tier 3 consumers are moving towards demand which is a very positive development.
