Nothing Phone (1) Announced Smartphone, Aiming To Compete With Apple

Nothing ended in its “The Truth” event, where it announced that it had raised $140 million so far, and delved into details about its future products. Till date, the company has remained silent about its future plans, and now it is finally revealed that it is working on developing a new smartphone, an Android launcher and more.

During the event Carl Pei, the founder of Nothing, said that the company wants to be the most attractive alternative to Apple. One of the most interesting announcements made at the event was that the company is currently developing its first smartphone called the Nothing Phone (1).

Nothing phone (1) will launch in the summer of 2022. The company didn’t give us an exact timeline or details on which markets it will be made available. The company says that the device will feature a unique design breaking the monotony of the slab, but has not revealed anything about the design other than the odd drawing.

The device will be powered by an unnamed Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, and run Android with its own Nothing OS skin on top, which it claims will be fast and smooth, and will come without any bloatware. The device will get three years of guaranteed operating system updates and four years of security updates. Nothing OS will feature heavy integration with the Nothing ecosystem that the company is trying to build with its products, so far, the integration will be limited to Ear(1) TWS.

Nothing Launcher, which will give users the Nothing OS experience, will be released next month for select Android phones.

Apart from this, the company did not reveal much about the upcoming smartphone, however, earlier reports suggest that it will be the spiritual successor of OnePlus. It is also expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, and to feature a transparent design.

The company revealed that it is working on several other product categories, which it will reveal soon.

In addition, the company also announced that it will soon host a second round of community funding, worth $10 million, where people can invest their money.

Following the announcement of the Nothing Phone (1) smartphone, aiming to compete with Apple first appeared on BGR India.
