Like Apple TV+, Netflix has announced spatial audio in partnership with Sennheiser for certain shows and movies on the platform. For the unversed, Spatial Audio translates regular audio into three-dimensional sound to make it feel like you’re watching content in a cinema.
Netflix releases spatial audio feature for Stranger Things, Red Notice and more
Netflix assures that you don’t need any special equipment like a home theater or surround sound speakers or any special streaming plan to access this feature. This feature was previously available for the Apple TV+ streaming service.
The movies and series that get this functionality are Ryan Reynolds’ The Adam Project, The Stranger Things Season 4, The Witcher, Interceptor, Locke & Key even more. Users can try the Spatial Audio feature by simply typing “spatial audio” in the search bar on the homepage. Now choose the favorite movie or series you want to watch and voila!
Netflix already comes with support for 4K, HDR, Dolby Atmos, and Netflix Calibrated Mode. As mentioned earlier, it’s compatible with all devices, all streaming plans, and doesn’t require surround sound speakers or home theater equipment.
According to a statement from Netflix, “Netflix Spatial Audio helps translate the cinematic experience of immersive audio into any stereo, so the work producers do to get you into the story, no matter where you are on Netflix. What device do you use to watch. Spatial Audio will be released in our catalog starting today.”
Notably, if you don’t have surround sound speakers, the Spatial Audio feature will be enabled automatically when streaming a compatible show or series. On the other hand, if you have surround sound speakers, it is recommended by Netflix to watch TV shows and movies in 5.1 surround sound or Dolby Atmos.
