Netflix has finally announced that it will begin rolling out its cheaper ad-supported tier on November 3 at 12 noon. The new “Basic with Ads” will be available for users in select countries for now, including the US, UK, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea and Spain.

Netflix finally introduces subscription plan with ads

Netflix was working on this plan since the beginning of the year. The price of this plan is $ 6.99 (about Rs 575) per month. Along with “Basic with ads,” the other plans the company is already offering are ad-free: Basic, Standard, and Premium plans. Netflix has assured that the ad-free plans will remain unaffected.

The new plan will offer video quality up to 720p/HD similar to the original plan. Netflix says that these ads will stream at an average rate of 4 to 5 minutes per hour. According to the blogpost, “Due to license restrictions a limited number of movies and TV shows we are working on will not be available; we do not have the ability to download titles.”

According to Netflix, commercials will be streamed for 15 or 30 seconds during movies and shows. The streaming platform will offer ads based on countries and users’ preferred genres. Additionally, Netflix has announced its partnership with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science that will verify the visibility and traffic legitimacy of ads starting in Q1 2023.

According to the blogpost, “The switch from linear is happening at an ever-increasing pace, with streaming now surpassing broadcast and cable in the US. We’re confident that with Netflix starting at $6.99 a month, we now have every fan. For a price and plan.”
