MoS Devusinh Chauhan says India will get 5G coverage across the country in a few years


Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to officially flag off 5G services in India at the India Mobile Congress 2022 on October 1, 2022. Ahead of the launch, Minister of State for Communications (Mos) Devusinh Chouhan has said that India will get it across the country. 5G coverage in a few years.

The MoS made these remarks while holding bilateral talks with Russian Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Bella Cherkesova on the sidelines of the Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Bucharest, Romania.

On this occasion, Chouhan also said that India has indigenously developed 4G stack and is on the verge of developing indigenous 5G stack. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government of India has taken several steps to become self-reliant in advanced telecom technology including the development of chipsets. Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, India has become the second largest handset manufacturer in the world,” the MoS said.

Apart from these, MoS Chauhan also talked about the advanced and upcoming technologies like 6th Generation Telecom Network, Internet of Things and Cyber ​​Security.

During the bilateral talks, the Minister of State for Communications said that the Government of India has set up a Technology Innovation Group to design and develop 6G technology by 2030. He said there are many areas where Russia and India can cooperate, including development. 5G use cases, design 6G technology, IoT, M2M (machine to machine), cyber security and develop reliable last mile solutions.

The Russian Deputy Minister expressed interest in deepening cooperation with India in the fields of developing advanced telecommunications technology, security and 5G use cases.

Significantly, this is not the first time that India has talked about 6G telecom technology. PM Modi while addressing the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2022 in August this year had said that India will get 6G connectivity by the end of this decade. “You have also seen that now 5G is being launched in India.
