Meta has long used ads to bolster the revenue stream from its platforms, which include Instagram, Facebook and to a lesser extent WhatsApp. Over the years, the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company has not only increased the visibility of ads on its platforms, but it has also expanded the ways brands, creators and influencers can promote their products on its platform. Now, the company is doubling down again on its commitment to ads by introducing more ad-based features for select users.
Meta-owned Instagram has announced that it will place ads in the platform’s search results to reach people actively searching for businesses, products and content. “We’re starting to test ads in search results to reach people actively searching for businesses, products and content,” Instagram wrote in a blog post.
“The ads will appear in a feed that people can scroll through when they tap into a post from search results. We plan to launch this placement globally in the coming months.”
This means that in addition to getting regular search results, Instagram users will now be bombarded with ads as they search for a page, product or personality on Instagram.
In addition, Instagram also announced that it is launching a new form of ads called ‘reminder ads’ as an option in feed for all advertisers. The move is expected to help advertisers build awareness, anticipation and consideration for the upcoming moments.
“Reminder ads, rolled out to all advertisers as an option in feed, help advertisers build awareness, anticipation and consideration for upcoming moments. People can opt in to convenient reminders and a day before, 15 minutes You can get three notifications from Instagram before and during the event. couple,
As of now, ads can now be seen on Explore Pages, Explore Feeds, Reels, Stories and even in user profiles.
What does this mean for you?
Interestingly, this update comes just days after Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom gave an interview, saying that the platform has ‘lost its soul’ and that his deepest regret was the commercialization of Instagram .
Indeed, over the years, the platform has become an advanced marketing tool for companies and creators alike, designed to keep viewers scrolling through their feeds for hours. While Instagram has added alternate feed options, Following and Favorites, it requires users to manually select one of the two every time they open the app. In other words, it cannot be set as the default option for the long term. And now, with the addition of ads to Instagram search, the company is taking the majority of its users one step away from seeing the content they subscribed to see. With ads invading search results on Instagram, Meta is creating another space within the platform to drive more user engagement, or in other words, keep users scrolling.
Post meta hasn’t done the job of inserting ads on Instagram, it’s now cluttering search results with ads that first appeared on Techlusive.
