The Jimny is seen as a replacement for Maruti’s now defunct Gypsy in India. The Thar is an off-road alternative to rival Maruti’s SUV line-up which includes the Vitara Brezza. The Jimny will also take on Mahindra Thar, Force Gurkha and others.
Maruti introduced the Jimny SUV in the international markets in 2018. The Suzuki Jimny sold abroad is powered by a 1.5-litre-4 cylinder, naturally aspirated K-series petrol engine that makes 104bhp of peak power and 138Nm of peak torque. The ladder frame equipped SUV gets 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter automatic gearboxes on offer.
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on a new long-wheelbase variant of the Jimny, which is expected to make its global debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Jimny 5-door will be around 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,730mm in height. With this length, the Jimny will be close to the Maruti Suzuki Swift in terms of length. However, the wheelbase is quite large at 2550 mm. The five-door variant is expected to get more boot space than the three-door variant.
Meanwhile, the company’s Vitara has finally been launched in India. The new car is competing with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos. The Grand Vitara will be available in six solid colors and three dual-tone color options. The price of the new SUV has not been decided yet. But it is expected that Maruti will start the deliveries of the new SUV before the festive season.
The Grand Vitara SUV is being offered through Nexa dealerships. The Grand Vitara will get a new hybrid power train. It will also have All Grip technology which will enable it to take on rough terrains. Providing it with more SUV DNA. The hybrid technology and all grip function will give Maruti a leg up to compete with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. However, there is no availability of a diesel powertray
