Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said here on Sunday that high-speed 5G services will be launched in some major cities of Odisha by March 2023.

Talking to media persons here, Vaishnav said that under the first phase, 5G services will be started in about 200 cities of India. He said that in this phase some major cities of Odisha will also be connected to 5G network by the end of March 2023.

He said that by the end of 2023, under the second phase, about 80 percent of the state would be covered by high speed internet service. High-speed 5G services to be launched in some major cities of Odisha by March 2023, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav

All major cities will be covered in Phase-I and later the service will be extended to semi-urban areas and then to rural areas across the country, Vaisha said.

On the development of Bhubaneswar railway station into a world-class station, Vaishnav, who is also the railway minister, said that he has requested his elder brother and education minister Dharmendra Pradhan to perform Bhoomi Puja. After that the physical work will start for the mega project.

Vaishnav also inaugurated India’s first Aluminum Freight Rake – 61 (BOBRNALHSM1) at Bhubaneswar Railway Station on Sunday. The destination of the rake is Bilaspur.

The minister said that in the coming days, light technology will also be used in the manufacture of passenger trains. He said this would reduce the carbon footprint in the form of less fuel consumption in the empty direction and greater transportation of freight in the loaded position. A single rake can save over 14,500 tonnes of CO2 over its lifetime.

It is a dedicated effort for the Make in India program as it has been designed and developed completely indigenously in collaboration with Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO), Hindalco and Besco Wagons.

It is a completely lockbolted construction with no welding on the superstructure. He said the tire is 3.25 tonnes less than normal steel rakes, 180 tonnes of additional carrying capacity resulting in higher throughput per wagon.
