Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro models may feature physical buttons instead of solid-state buttons, following months of speculation.
According to Apple analyst Ming Chi-kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature a traditional physical button design, due to unresolved technical issues before mass production.
“My latest poll indicates that due to unresolved technical issues prior to mass production, both the high-end iPhone 15 Pro models (Pro and Pro Max) will abandon the closely watched solid-state button design and adopt traditional physical buttons.” Will revert to button design,” Kuo wrote in a Medium post on Wednesday.
Furthermore, he said, investors expected the new solid-state button design to increase suppliers’ revenue and profits; As such, this change is particularly unfavorable for Cirrus Logic (the exclusive controller IC supplier) and AAC Technologies (the tactic engine supplier).
Another tactic engine supplier for solid-state buttons, Luxshare ICT will be less affected by this change due to its much larger operating scale than AAC Technologies.
Kuo said that the iPhone 15 Pro is still in the EVT development stage, so there is still time to modify the design.
In addition, removing solid-state buttons and restoring physical buttons will simplify the development and testing process.
Based on these considerations, the removal of the solid-state button should have a minor impact on the Pro model’s mass production schedule and shipments.
