Meta-owned Instagram has announced new features on its short-video making app to empower creators.
The social network has added a dedicated destination for trending audio and hashtags, two new metrics for Reels Insights, and brought gifts to Reels in more countries.
Creators will now be able to see what are the top trending topics and hashtags on Reels.
“We’re making it easier for you to edit your Reels on Instagram by bringing together video clips, audio, stickers and text on a unified editing screen,” Meta said.
This makes it easy to align and time the elements of your reel at the right moments in a more visual way.
The feature is available globally on both iOS and Android devices.
Two new metrics being added are total watch time and average watch time on Reels.
“Total watch time refers to the total time spent playing your reel, including time spent replaying the reel. Average watch time refers to the average time spent playing your reel, calculated as The total is calculated by dividing the clock time with the number of plays,” the company explained.
For example, if your average watch time is 17 seconds, then of all the people who viewed your Reel, they watched an average of 17 seconds.
This will help creators better understand where people are engaging or where you may need to craft a stronger hook to retain viewers longer.
“We’re also adding a new way to see how your Reels are contributing to your growth. You’ll now get notifications about new followers from your Reels.”
The company is also adding a new feature to show creators which gifts fans have sent them, so they can recognize their supporters.
