Instagram has now introduced a new subscribers program on its platform, where it will charge users for exclusive content by creators. Instagram head Adam Mosseri took it to Twitter to make the announcement. Under this program, creators will have the option to pay their followers for their exclusive reels and posts on the platform. Fee will be charged on monthly basis.

Monthly subscriptions will allow followers to engage directly with creators on the platform. A creator can create a group of up to 30 followers (customers) to engage with them directly. According to the blogpost, “Messenger-powered customer chats can be created directly from your inbox or story and automatically end after 24 hours, so you can balance and decide what you want to do with your customers.” When and how do you join?”
Creators can also use “Join Chat” stickers in their general or specific stories to directly join group chats. They will see a “Subscribers” tab in their inbox that will help them organize their chats.

Creators will have some paywall content including reels, posts on the platform. This content will only be visible to subscribers and only they will be able to comment or like these posts. Notably, live sessions and stories will still be available to all followers.

Subscribers will see an exclusive tab on all things subscriptions on the creator’s profile. This way they can easily get access to exclusive content on the platform.
Notably, the pricing model of this membership program has not yet been announced. Meta has also clarified that it will not cut Facebook and Instagram income of its creators until the end of this year.
