Apple shipped nearly one million ‘Make-in-India’ iPhones to India in the first quarter of 2022. According to Cyber ​​Media Research (CMR), a market intelligence firm, this figure represents a 50 percent year-on-year jump in iPhone shipments. from within the country.

Further, the report states that iPhones in India registered an overall growth of 22 percent in the first quarter of 2022. This growth trend was mainly due to sales of iPhone 12 and iPhone 13. “Our insights point to the contribution of ‘Make in India’ iPhones in Q1 2022, growing by 50 per cent annually. The contribution of new generation iPhones, such as the iPhone 13, is almost equal to that of the iPhone 12.

Apple’s advanced and diversified iPhone production capabilities as well as its aggressive retail initiatives helped contribute to its strong growth momentum in India. “As Apple further diversifies its manufacturing base, the new generation iPhone models will fuel Apple’s India growth story,” he said.

Apple first started manufacturing the iPhone in India with the iPhone SE in 2017. Gradually, it added the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 to the mix. Then earlier this month, the company added the iPhone 13 to the mix.

Further, the report states that the iPhone 12 maintained the lead with a 52 percent market share in the first quarter of 2022. It was followed by iPhone 13 with 20 percent market share and iPhone 11 with 18 percent market share in the country.

Talking about Apple iPads, the report states that the company has registered an overall growth of 31 percent in India. The 9th generation iPad with Wi-Fi led the trend and captured 45 percent market share in India in the first quarter of the year.

Coming to the rest of the year, according to the report, Apple is expected to register a 5.2 percent market share in India in 2022.

CMR Analyst believes that this trend is being seen because of Apple’s brand appeal. “It’s a break from the past when older generation iPhone models won the consumer favor through aggressive and attractive value propositions,” he said.
