A voter ID card is an identity card issued by the Election Commission of India for Indian citizens. It serves as proof of identity or address of an Indian citizen. You must have a voter ID card to cast your vote at the time of election.
This card is not only valid for voting, there are many government schemes where it is required. According to the Election Commission of India, every eligible citizen can have a voter ID card.
Assembly elections are approaching, and if for some reason you want to go somewhere else, be sure to change your address on your voter ID card. It’s effortless, and there are two ways to do it – the first offline and the second online If you wish to change your address offline, submit an application to your constituency election officer with proof of your current address.
Here are some simple steps you can take to begin the process of changing your address online
Step 1: Log in to the National Voter Services Portal www.nvsp.in.
Step 2: If you move to another constituency, you will need to click on Form 6 under the online application for new voter registration / transfer from AC to AC.
Step 3: If you moved from one residence to another within the same constituency, click on Form 8A.
Step 4: Fill in all the required details here including your name, date of birth, state, constituency, current permanent address.
Step 5: Some details are optional, such as email address and mobile number. Fill in these too.
STEP6: Upload all supporting documents, including photograph, proof of address and proof of age.
Step 7: Submit the form online along with all the uploaded documents.
STEP8: Now, fill out the declaration option and enter the captcha.
Step 9: Verify all the details.
Step 10: Now click on Submit tab.
