Instagram is one of the most popular social media apps in the world. The social media platform lets you share stories, post photos, share videos and reels, and much more. Users can also consume content on the Platform and chat with others through direct messages.

Parent company Meta, which apart from Instagram also owns Facebook and WhatsApp, wants to provide its users with a similar and consistent experience across its apps. That said, Instagram also has activity status similar to WhatsApp. Users who chat or follow others can see whether they are online or offline.

As always, make sure the Instagram app is updated to the latest version on your smartphone. Once you do, follow the steps given below.

step 1: Open Instagram on your Android and iOS smartphone.

step 2: Tap on your profile in the lower right corner.

step 3: Tap on the hamburger icon in the top right corner.

step 4: open settings.

Step 5: Tap on the Privacy option.

Step 6: Scroll down a bit and find the Activity Status tab and tap on it.

Step 7: Now, there are two options – Show activity status and Show when you are active simultaneously. The latter is for chat, which means that if you’ve started a conversation (in chat) with people you follow, they’ll be able to see if you’re online in the same chat. The former will enable or disable your activity status entirely. Disable the first option. When you disable the first option, the second option will automatically be disabled.

In this way you can easily turn off your online status on Instagram.
