Aadhar card which consists of a 12 digit Unique Identification Number, is an important document that Indian residents require for proof of identity. The card issued by UIDAI is useful for availing benefits, for example, filing IT returns, opening a bank account, for government subsidies, etc.

Aadhaar number can also be used to apply for PAN card which is another important document which is required by most of the taxpayers. A 10-digit unique alphanumeric number card is issued by the Income Tax Department to keep a record of all tax related information of an individual to prevent tax evasion. Apart from paying income tax, a PAN card plays an important role while getting a tax refund. That said, having an Aadhar card does away with the hassle of filling up a detailed application to apply for a PAN card. If you have an Aadhaar card, and you are applying for a PAN card for the first time, here is how you can get an instant permanent account number.

How to Apply for Instant Pan Card Through Aadhar Card in Simple Steps

Step 1- Go to the official e-filing home page of the IT Department.

Step 2- Once the page opens, click on the option ‘Instant e-PAN’ under the ‘Quick Links’ section of the homepage. It will redirect you to the instant PAN allotment webpage.

Step 3- Then click on ‘Get New PAN’ button.

Step 4- Next enter your Aadhaar number for PAN allotment and select the ‘I confirm’ check box after tapping on ‘Continue’ option.

Step 5- You will then receive an Aadhaar OTP on your registered mobile number, enter it in the required fields and click on ‘Validate Aadhaar OTP and continue’ button.

Step 6- You will then be redirected to the OTP verification page. Accept the Terms and Conditions, and click the Continue button.

Step 7- Then enter the OTP, click on the check box and press the Continue button again.

Step 8- If your email ID is not valid, you can click on ‘Verify Email ID’, enter the credentials and then click on continue button.

Step 9- You will receive an acknowledgment number after submitting your Aadhaar details for verification. You can check PAN allotment status by just entering your Aadhar number.

To download e-PAN, first follow two steps, and then click on ‘Check Status/Download PAN’ option, enter your Aadhar Number and Captcha Code, tap on submit icon, validate by entering OTP, and follow the procedure. If PAN allotment is successful, a PDF file link will be generated within 10 minutes, download it and enter the password (Date of Birth in DDMMYYY format) to access the file. While the process is simple, the applicant must take into account the Aadhaar to be linked with the registered mobile number.
