Government withdraws data protection bill in favor of new bill


The Indian government on Wednesday announced the withdrawal of the Personal Data Protection Bill from Parliament. Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar said on Twitter that a new bill will soon replace it. According to a report, the Joint Parliamentary Committee suggested 81 changes to the Data Protection Bill, but it was eventually withdrawn.
