Google recently launched the Pixel 6a smartphone in several countries a few days back and now some buyers have noticed that any fingerprint is able to unlock their new phone in a worrying security lapse by Google. According to 9To5Google, last week, two reports emerged about the Pixel 6a’s under-display fingerprint sensor (UDFPS), allowing anyone to unlock it. This includes those who did not register their fingerprints ahead of time. Now there have been six more reports of this happening so far. The report states that they ranged from being able to unlock with a different finger to not being able to unlock another person’s Pixel 6a.
Notable reviewer Geekiranjeet said in a tweet, “Looks like Google did a poor job of testing the Pixel 6a… just like the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro had a lot of problems. After that on the Pixel 6a I just got this. Cannot rely on the fingerprint scanner on the device. Currently, the cause of the problem remains unknown and it is not clear whether a new update will fix the problem or if there is a deeper hardware issue on the affected phone.
