Here is a summary of what has been confirmed so far and what rumors have been spread about the new Google Pixel 6 series.

Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro: New design, brand new chipset

The Pixel 6 lineup will get a new look this year. Although Google has implemented a basic design over the previous iteration, the 2021 Pixel series will receive a significant upgrade. The tech giant has already spread the beans on the Pixel 6, 6 Pro cosmetic changes. The teaser shared on social media confirmed the leaked renders shared by Tipstar John Prosser a few months ago. The Pixel 6 range will have a long form factor, smooth profile and horizontal rear camera modules across the entire phone. The module divides the back panel into two sections with different color accents. The regular model will get pastel shades of green, red and black, and the protie will have a ‘metallic color’ of black, gold and gray.

Moving on to the internal hardware, the 2021 Pixel series will equip Google’s first in-house tensor chipset. An earlier report had said that the so-called GS101 chips would have “three cluster setups, including a TPU (tensor processing unit)” for machine learning applications. Google cites that the new processor will bring significant improvements in speech recognition and photography (via CNET). It is said to have “data-center-level” speech recognition. The new Google Chip can be paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of storage.

Google Pixel phones are best known for their camera capabilities, and this year will be no different. Reports indicate that both the Pixel 2021 models could use Samsung’s 50-megapixel GN1 sensor and the 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 ultraviolet lens and a Sony IMX586 4x telephoto lens. The front camera may be upgraded from 8-megapixel to 12-megapixel seen in the previous iteration. The Pro version is said to feature Baby Mode and Motion Dablu.

As far as the rest of the glasses are concerned, Rumor Mill suggests that the Pixel Duo could get an under-display fingerprint scanner and a 120Hz panel. Devices are said to have Apple Air tags like UWB (Ultra-Wideband) support that will be able to track the location of nearby objects. According to reports, the UWB hardware is supplied by the American semiconductor company Qorvo.

The Pixel 6 Pro will also feature a reverse wireless charging feature called ‘Battery Share’. The phones are rumored to have a ‘smooth display’ dynamic refresh rate feature that will change the refresh rate based on the content played on the device. The Pro model can pack a 5,000mAh battery that will support 33W fast charging. The battery capacity of the vanilla variant has not been revealed yet.

In front of the software, both Pixel phones will run Google’s latest Android 12 OS which is the material you designed. Devices can come with WiFi 6E support.

Google Pixel 6 Series: Release Date (Expected)

If Google follows its usual launch timeline, we could debut the Pixel 6 series in October. The report predicts that the phones may be unveiled on October 19, although the technology company has yet to make any confirmation and due to the chip crisis, the release may be delayed until November. For the price, the Pixel 6 series is expected to be more expensive than its older siblings. And unlike Apple, Google will not bundle the charger with the Pixel phone.
