Google has announced some new features for Google Maps to help users plan their trips better. These new features include road toll estimation and detailed maps for better navigation. Additionally, iOS users will also get some improved features including a new home screen widget, and more improvements to Siri, Spotlight integration, and more.
Google Maps: Road Toll Estimates, Detailed Maps

These estimates will be given to Google by the local tolling authorities. If you want to avoid toll routes altogether, you can also tap on the new feature called “Avoid tolls”, which is found in the menu in the top right corner of the Google Maps app.
The tech giant has confirmed that these toll prices will now be rolled out for both Android and iOS users for around 2,000 toll roads across the US, India, Japan and Indonesia. It will soon be released in other countries as well.
Additionally, to improve the navigation experience, the app will soon show traffic lights and stop signs on the route “with advanced details such as building outlines and areas of interest”. In select cities, users will also see the shape and size of the road, including the middle and islands. These details will help users not to miss a turn or make last-minute lane changes.
These features will soon be available on Android, iOS, Android Auto and CarPlay in select countries.
Google Maps: Changes to iOS
Talking about iOS, Google has made some other improvements. iPhone and iPad users will soon get a new widget that will show pinned trips on the Go tab. It will show details like arrival time and suggest routes for the drivers. The Apple Watch will soon be able to read instructions even when they’re not around their iPhones.
Google Maps is also integrating with Spotlight, Siri, and the Shortcuts app on iOS. Once the shortcut is set up, users can say “Hey Siri, get directions” to get instant access to Google Maps.
