Gmail is one of the most popular emailing services on the planet. It is not only used by individual users for their personal purposes but also by teachers and enterprises for their employees. The service is loaded with several useful features that make it easier for users to manage their daily communications. Gmail also has a simple but incredibly useful availability status feature that helps other users understand whether you are available at the moment.

Users can choose from four options – Active, Do Not Disturb, Away and Idle (on Android and iOS). Although this feature is quite useful, not everyone can see the availability status of a person. Google says that only people with whom you share space or from whom you have accepted chat invitations can see your status.

So, if you’re going to be out of the office for a while and you want to change your availability status in Gmail, here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Open Gmail in your web browser.
Step 2: Click on the down arrow in the upper right corner of the window next to your status indicator.
