Facebook Pay renamed to Meta Pay as Zuckerberg sees digital wallet for Metaverse

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that the company is changing the name of Facebook Pay to Meta Pay.

Meta Pay will continue to be a simple way to care, send money and donate to users on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and anywhere they use Facebook Pay.

The CEO said in a Facebook post, “But beyond the existing features, we are working on something new – a wallet for the Metaverse that lets you securely manage your identity, what you own and how you pay. ”

“In the future there will be all kinds of digital items you want to make or buy – digital clothing, art, videos, music, experiences, virtual events, and more,” it added.

Zuckerberg noted that proof of ownership will be important, especially if users want to take some of these items with them to various services.

Ideally, users should be able to sign in to any Metaverse experience and everything they’ve purchased should be there.

“It’s a long way to get there, but this kind of interoperability will provide better experiences for people and bigger opportunities for creators,” Zuckerberg said.

Facebook Pay was renamed Meta Pay as Zuckerberg first noticed a digital wallet for the Metaverse at BGR India.
