Facebook and Instagram were shut down for a few hours last night, the second time in a week

Instagram users can now post 60 seconds long Reels: Here s how to post

Facebook and its photo-sharing app Instagram were down worldwide last night. Although social media platforms have now started working again, they seem to be the victims of repeated confusion.

Earlier this week, Facebook services, including Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, were shut down for about six hours, the longest disruption in the company’s history.

Facebook, Instagram off

According to the Outage Tracking website DownDetector, the last disturbance lasted a little longer than two at night, from 11:50 to IST 2:20.

During the distraction, users basically had trouble accessing Instagram through the app. The application showed an error and did not refresh the feed. Several users have also complained about not being able to send or receive messages directly on the platform.

Soon after Instagram shut down, users flocked to the microblogging site Twitter to check their status and why the photo-sharing app wasn’t working. Hashtags like #Instagramdown #instadown are also starting to trend worldwide.

Minutes after the social platforms shut down, Facebook acknowledged the confusion, saying “we are aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We are working to get things back to normal as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Ironically, social media giant Twitter issued an official statement on the confusion.

The social media giant, however, has not revealed any specific reason behind this disruption. After the problem was fixed, Instagram said, “Things are fixed, and everything should be back to normal now. Thank you for staying with us.
