Download Windows 11: Fake installers can infect your PC, here are some tips to stay safe

Windows 11 launch could happen in October 2021 but your PC maybe unlucky

Microsoft has already announced the next iteration of Windows by dubbing Windows 11, but the static update is not yet available for everyone to download. Microsoft will release Windows 11 later this year, mostly like September and October. The technical company has not yet released the exact date.

The official / stable build release of Windows 11 has not yet taken place, with users scrolling to various installers available on the Internet to experience the next generation of Windows.

Made fake Windows 11 installer round

Before the official release, a preview version of Windows 11 is already available for download. This opportunity is being used by cyber criminals to throw malware into devices. There are a number of fake Windows 11 installers available on the Internet that deceive users. According to Kaspersky’s report, the most common way cybercriminals deceive users is to “slip something extra (or something else).”

One of the many such duplicate installers is the executable file name 86307_windows 11 build 21996.1 x64 + activator.x. Kaspersky reports that this fake installer comes with a file size as large as 1.75 GB and looks “placeable”. The report states that “the lion’s share of that space consists of a DLL file that contains a lot of useless information.”

Installing an executable file looks like a typical Windows installation wizard, so you won’t see much difference at first. The main purpose of this type of file is to download and run another executable, which comes with an installer and even a license agreement that says it will install some sponsored software. Once you agree to the agreement, several malicious programs will be installed on your device.

How to protect your device: A few tips

Tip 1: Download Windows 11 from official source only. This is also what Microsoft suggests. Windows 11 is officially only available to participants in the Windows Insider program. You need a device already installed with Windows 10 to install the update.

Tip 2: To upgrade to Windows 11 on a Windows 10 PC, go to Settings, click Update and Security, then select the Windows Insider program and activate the Deb channel to get the update.

Tip 3: According to Kaspersky, you must use a reliable security solution and never disable it. This ensures that cybercriminals will not have access to your PC through vulnerabilities in social engineering or pre-ready-for-primetime systems.
