Did Ola Electric sell only S1 Pro in the first phase of sales?

Ola Electric recently announced that it has shipped all the scooters ordered in the first phase. Delayed delivery has left a sour taste in the mouth of the buyer. However, some customers were pleasantly surprised to find that they were getting a free upgrade to Ola S1 Pro, at least in terms of hardware. Several buyers shared the e-mails sent by the company announcing the free upgrade.

The Ola S1 is the cheapest of the two scooters and retails for Rs 99,999. The Pro variant sells for Rs 1,29,999. There is a difference of 30 thousand rupees.

A source close to the company told BGR.in that all the scooters shipped in the first phase of the sale were actually Ola S1 Pro scooters or at least Ola S1 Pro-ready scooters. This means that if you have ordered an Ola S1 in the first stage, it is highly likely that you have received the Ola S1 Pro, which has the functionality of the Ola S1.

This has also been confirmed through an official mail to the buyers which claims that the company has offered a free upgrade at no extra charge.

However, there is no need to get excited. While the hardware may be a definite upgrade, there will be no real benefit to the rider in terms of driving range or features exclusive to the Ola S1 Pro. Instead, the company has given an option to completely upgrade the Ola S1 Pro by paying an additional amount of Rs 30,000. If you are not satisfied with Ola S1, then the company has given a provision to upgrade the scooter to Ola S1 Pro.

It has been revealed that several buyers had booked the Ola S1 for Rs 499, during the initial booking phase. However, after taking a test drive, these buyers wanted to upgrade to the Ola S1 Pro. Ola Electric, to meet any future demand to switch to Ola S1 Pro, decided to go with Ola S1 Pro scooter, instead of Ola S1, even paying for Ola S1 For buyers as well.

Ola Electric is yet to officially confirm that all the 4000 scooters shipped in the first phase of sales are Ola S1 Pro.

The company is facing criticism from both the customers who have placed orders for Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro. On paper, it is a free upgrade but Ola S1 buyers have been demanding more clarity from the company about the cheaper variant. On the other hand, Ola S1 Pro buyers feel that they have paid more for the same product.

The lack of clarity on the subject is raising questions on whether the company was even ready with Ola S1 stock.
