Delhi Police sends notice to Clubhouse, Google for targeting Muslim women in group chat

The Clubhouse app is going through a tough time in India. The audio-only social media platform has been making headlines around the controversial audio chat room “Muslim girls are more beautiful than Hindu girls” where some users were found making obscene comments about Muslim women. Delhi Police is taking strict action against the organizer of the alleged audio group chat.

As per the latest update on the matter, Delhi Police has sent notices to Clubhouse and Google seeking information about the organizer of the group chat. Official sources related to the matter have confirmed the information to the media. Police have identified some members of the group audio chat.

The police have asked Google to share information about the Clubhouse app and list the reason behind it on the Play Store.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the users involved in the group chat were using fake names and participating in fake accounts. Some users even modified and edited their voices to remove any digital footprint.

Sources close to the matter said, “We have so far identified five to six suspects who were part of the alleged chat room.” Many of them are located outside Delhi and other states as well. The suspects include both men and women and are all adults.

The matter is presently under the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit of Delhi Police. The IFSO unit of Delhi Police took up the matter after the Delhi Commission for Women wrote a letter to the Cyber ​​Crime Cell of Delhi Police demanding an FIR.

The IFSO unit of Delhi Police has booked sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion) and FIR has been registered under 354. A (sexual harassment).

Commenting on the matter, the officials said, “A case has already been registered in this matter under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. We have also written to Google and the Clubhouse app seeking details about the organizer of the alleged audio group in which some obscene remarks were made against Muslim women.

The clubhouse incident came to the fore after Bulli Bai and Sulli Deal, in which Muslim women were put up for auction on an online platform.
