Cyberpunk 2077 reaches 18 million copies sold, Witcher 3 up to 40 million

CD Projekt has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 sales have risen to 18 million copies, up from 13.7 million at the game’s launch in December 2020. Meanwhile, The Witcher 3 has now grown to 40 million as a franchise and over 65 million in total.

Earlier, CD Projekt shared that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had sold 30 million copies as of April 2021. Cyberpunk 2077 has sold nearly 5 million copies in the late 2020s and now in about 16 months.

“We believe in the long-term potential of our latest release; thus, one of our priorities for 2021 was to improve Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay. We are now satisfied with the game and the reception of its next-gen console version by gamers. In all, we have now sold over 18 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077,” CD Projekt’s vice president and CFO Nelubowicz said in a statement.

CD Projekt Red is currently working on an expansion to Cyberpunk 2077. The expansion is expected to help further sustain the sales momentum. CD Projekt Red has previously stated that Cyberpunk 2077 will eventually have more DLC than The Witcher 3.

Adam Kicinski, president of D Projekt Red, said that the Cyberpunk 2077 extension being developed by several “agile teams” was implemented as part of the transformation process.

“We are fully committed to the cyberpunk franchise and intend to grow it further,” Kicinski said.

CD Projekt RED also revealed that it plans to release its popular The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for next-gen consoles. CD Projekt RED continues to work on other undisclosed projects, including its recently acquired subsidiary, the Boston-based studio The Molasses Flood.

Cyberpunk 2077 sold 18 million copies, up from Witcher 3 to 40 million debut on BGR India.
