The government has introduced a new set of consolidated guidelines for charging setup for Electric Vehicles (EVs). The notification will enable faster roll-out of the EV ecosystem. The main objective is to provide a safe environment of charging infra as the electric vehicle trend is gaining momentum. The government claims that this move will also boost energy security and emission reduction in the country.
There are new guidelines for both individual owners of electric vehicles and even public charging stations (PCS).

The Union Ministry of Power has clarified that owners can charge their electric vehicles at their residences/offices using their existing electricity connections. This means that setting up a charging station for your Electric Vehicle (EV) at your home does not require any additional documentation. The tariff applicable for domestic consumption will be applicable for domestic charging.
Public Charging Stations (PCS)
For those planning to install public chargers, the government has also disclosed a detailed list of compliance requirements. These include the criteria for an “appropriate” infrastructure for civilian, electrical and security needs.
Any person/entity is free to set up public charging stations without requiring license provided such stations meet the prescribed norms/standards/specifications along with technical, safety as well as performance standards and protocols laid down under the guidelines. Do it from time to time by the Ministry of Power, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Land at promotional rates through revenue sharing model
Further, to encourage more people/entities to take up public charging stations in this period of development, the government has introduced a revenue-sharing model for the land to be used for the same.
Land available with Government/Public Institutions for setting up of Public Charging Stations A Government/Public entity will be provided with a fixed rate of ₹ 1/kWh (used for charging) on revenue-sharing basis for setting up of Public Charging Stations . , This money will have to be paid to the land owning agency on a quarterly basis.
