Apple’s new App Store rules for easier data deletion, in-app purchases hit June 30

Apple had announced several new changes to its App Store policy back at its annual developers conference, WWDC 2021. At the time, the company targeted everything from fraudulent apps and hookup apps to bounty hunter apps and whether or not Roblox is a game. Now, as we (Worldwide Developer Conference) approach WWDC 2022, Apple has started reminding developers of two changes that will come into effect from June 30.

The first change requires apps that offer paid online group services to use their in-app payment systems. The second change makes it mandatory for app developers to offer easy account deletion, including stored personal data of users.

The new App Store guidelines require apps offering paid online group services to do so via in-app purchases. This means that apps that offer person-to-person services in real-time between two individuals (tuitioning students, medical consultations, real estate tours, or fitness training) can use purchase methods other than in-app purchases. should be used. Apple introduced this change in its guidelines before WWDC 2021 and has been delayed three times so far. The first delay came in 2020 while the second delay came in the spring of 2021. After that, Apple delayed the implementation of this policy until January 2022. However, the company delayed its implementation till June 30, 2022.

The other policy regarding deleting apps was introduced at WWDC 2021 and requires developers to give users more control over their personal data,” stating that all apps that are allowed to create an account should be given to users. You should be allowed to delete your account from within. App.”

Here are Apple’s account deletion requirements:

It should be easy to find the option to delete the account in your app.

It is not enough just to provide the ability to temporarily disable or deactivate an account. People should be able to delete the account along with their personal data.

Apps in highly-regulated industries may need to provide additional support flows to confirm and facilitate the account deletion process.

Comply with applicable legal requirements for storing and maintaining user account information. This includes complying with local laws in different countries or regions. As always, contact your legal advisor.

Now this policy was to be implemented in January this year. However, Apple delayed it until June 30, 2022, “due to the complexity of implementing this requirement.” Now, both these policies are scheduled to come into effect from June 30, 2022.

Data can be easily erased following Apple’s new App Store rules, with in-app purchases first appearing on BGR India on June 30.
