Apple Watch Series 8 to get more expensive new ‘rugged’ version with bigger screen

Apple will launch a new version of its smartwatch Apple Watch Series 8. The new version will be aimed at extreme sports athletes and will probably be the most premium Apple Watch to launch this year.

According to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, the Apple Watch Series 8 will get a new rugged version this year. This new variant will have a bigger display and battery and a rugged metal casing.

The report claims that the new Apple Watch Series 8 Rugged Edition will feature a larger display at a diagonal length of 2 inches. It’s slightly larger than the 1.9-inch display that’s coming to the Apple Watch Series 7. According to the report, the standard Watch Series 8 will continue with a 1.9-inch screen.

The new Rugged model will get around 7 percent more screen real estate than the standard Apple Watch. Apple will demand premium for the new rugged version and its benefits. The current Apple Watch Series 7 price starts at Rs 41,900. Athlete-focused hardware will be rated higher than the standard version.

In terms of build quality, Apple will use a stronger metal than the standard version. The screen will also be more shatter resistant than the standard version. Generally, Apple uses aluminum for its watch series. Another advantage that the Rugged version will offer is a larger battery pack. This will give slightly better standby time.

The new Apple Watch 8 series is likely to feature body temperature detection. This feature is also expected to be seen in the standard Apple Watch Series 8. Apple is also working on improving the tracking sensor to measure aspects like altitude.

The new Apple Watch series will be powered by the S8 processor which will be a minor upgrade to the S7 chip. New Apple Watches are usually launched with the latest iPhone series. We can expect the new series to be launched around September.

It’s the first time since the Apple Watch Series 8 to get a more expensive new ‘rugged’ version with a bigger screen has appeared on BGR India.
