Apple’s second-generation AirPods Pro went on sale on September 23 in markets across the world. Shortly before the sale started, the company revealed another point of difference between the original AirPods Pro and the second generation AirPods Pro, i.e. ear tips.

The iPhone maker revealed in a document on its support page that the ear tips of the first generation AirPods Pro are incompatible with the newly launched second generation AirPods and the difference lies in the mesh that Apple has used in the ear tips of both. . Generation of AirPods Pro models. The company says the ear tips of the first-generation AirPods Pro have a much denser mesh than those of the second-generation AirPods Pro models, making the former’s ear tips incompatible with the latter. Simply put, you can’t use the eartips of your old AirPods Pro with the newer AirPods Pro model, in case you need it in an emergency.

“The ear tips have been specially designed for their AirPods Pro generation, to provide the highest-fidelity audio experience. As a result, use the ear tips that came with your AirPods Pro,” Apple wrote in a supporting document.

“The AirPods Pro (1st generation) ear tips have a much denser mesh than the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) ear tips,” the company added, without explaining how changes to the mesh affect sound output or features.

It’s worth noting that, despite the difference in mesh, the original AirPods Pro’s ear tips fit the newly launched AirPods Pro models, which makes them more physically compatible. Presumably, the difference is in terms of the sound output that the traps used in the two ear tips provide. Although, friends The Verge tested a few features and found no “immediate or apparent sound change” or difference in noise cancellation functionality. This means that the differences, however significant they may be, will not have a significant impact on your day-to-day listening experience. Specialized sound devices may be able to pick up on subtle changes in sound, but that’s what our ears feel.
